MOONBASE MAO – July 20th, 2019 – Commander Cheng De of the Chinese Army became the first person in nearly 50 years to walk on the surface of the moon today, on a day marking the 50th anniversary of the original moon landing by America. While the American feat was part of a cold war showdown to mark the ascendant power of the United States, and never designed to leave any permanent presence, the Chinese have landed with the express purpose of establishing a moon base and have claimed the area around Cabeus A near the moon’s south pole as Chinese national territory.
The location contains the only proven large reserve of water on the moon, and the announcement has sparked outrage in the international community. The US, still without its own manned orbital launch system after canceling of the SLS program by the Romney administration in 2017, is now looking skyward at a China that hangs above their heads each night…
