electric car 2042
2041 – Electric cars set to outsell gasoline powered cars in the EU; soon worldwide

PARIS – Jan 15th, 2041 – Hondasoft today announced at their annual shareholder party that electric cars will outsell gasoline powered cars in the EU this year, with the US and soon the world soon shifting the majority of cars to electric power and drive. the “big three” US, GM, Ford, and Chrysler, and well as the world’s biggest manufacturer Tata, have all shifted new production towards producing almost entirely electric cars. One of the major driving factor in the rapid shift in the automotive industry was the adoption of new drive and energy storage technologies from the discovery of ambient superconductors a few years ago.

This is not the first time electric cars have outsold gasoline powered cars. In fact, the first “cars” were electric, some of the first constructed by New England inventor Thomas Davenport in 1834, and up until 1900, electric cars outsold gasoline powered ones; in fact over 90% of cabs in New York City in 1901 were electric. The Baker Torpedo was the fastest car in the world in 1902, clocking in at over 120 mph. People preferred electric cars for their quiet, clean efficiency, lack of need for gear shifting or cranks to get going, and relative simplicity. It was the oil lobby that changed all that with the discovery of oil in Texas and other places that eventually drove the electric car off the road. Why build overlapping energy distribution systems, one for electricity and another for an explosive, toxic chemical. But the oil lobby group won the day.

Oil today slipped below $100 a barrel for the first time in nearly 30 years.

Keith Richards showed up at the celebrations with the rest of the Rolling Stones, including Mick Jagger, to put on a show to celebrate.

2018 – SO-CR-UK is the New English Soccer Manager; More Than Half of Team Sent Away

LONDON – June 1st, 2018- After the latest dismal failure of the English national team and their poor performances while failing to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2018, the FA has appointed a robot to coach the team. It has been a painful soap opera of the English side, on a long downhill slide ever since the firing of  Fabio Capello in 2012, doesn’t seem like it could get any worse apparently and so desperate measures have been taken. The SO-CR-UK, a custom built synthetic intelligence engine from IBM based on the famous Watson platform, uses the latest in artificial intelligence and expert systems technology. While SO-CR-UK lives in the cloud and constantly scans the world for data that may fit in its primary goal, it also gathers data and interacts with the team through an army of over a dozen mobile robotic platforms that interact with the players on the field and in the locker room.

Within seconds of the transfer of authority, SO-CR-UK’s first instruction was to immediately fire more than half of the current English side and replace them with more obscure players.

“We feel that emotions and press pressure have always played a major part in picking the wrong England team; by removing these elements and allowing a robot to fully analyze over a thousand performance quotients we can safely say the best team will be picked for success” said an English spokesman.

2063: Insider Trading Laws Scrapped As Universal Consciousness Achieved

EVERYWHERE – Jan 1st, 2063 – At precisely 4:17 pm GST yesterday, all living creatures in the cosmos experienced the blissful state of universal consciousness. Long a hypothesis of Eastern mystics and quantum physicisists, the merging of consciousness has allowed all living creatures to see, hear, taste, smell and remember all that is, all that has been, and all that will be. With all creatures recognizing their oneness, all wars ceased on Earth and elsewhere in our solar system, all pain has disappeared, and happiness and tranquility have become the universal norm. In response to the sudden sharing of information by all creatures, Congress suspended all insider trading laws as “just bloody silly”.

The preserved head-in-a-jar of Michael Moore called the change “yet another rigging of the system to favour the rich.”

2063 – Aliens land and apologize for religion; unlucky Pope Pius XIII thinks about calling the whole thing off

VATICAN CITY – April 1, 2063 – It has been confirmed that what appear to be extraterrestrials (self-named the ‘Grays’) have landed in Vatican City and apologized to Pope Pius XIII and other religious leaders for instigating religion during the dawn of mankind.

“We did not think it would lead to so much war, strife and suffering,” stated AzQsa. “It was meant to be used as a means for social control and stability.”

AzQsa has promised to divulge the true meaning of life to Humanity within the next few years, and when asked if ‘42’ was the answer it replied, “No comment.”

The aliens have not made any appearance, and have been simply communicating from within their cube-shaped ship which descended slowly out of the heavens to deposit itself in front of St. Peter’s. In other news, all the world’s dolphins appeared to have disappeared yesterday…

2023 – Stevie Wonder drives home Google and Apple; the Goopple vs. Hondasoft fight begins

LOS ANGELES – August 30, 2023 – In a move that rocked several industries, Google and Apple announced today a sweeping partnership and unveiled the iAndroid self-driving car, powered by Android OS 8.3. At a full blown party and press reception attended by celebrities in Tinsel Town, Stevie Wonder gleefully told his car to “drive me home” and was broadcast over the Internet singing ‘I just called to say I love you’ to longtime Google CEO Eric Schmidt. The move was widely reported as a counter to the aggressive return of Bill Gates to the helm of the merger between Microsoft and Honda last year.

The  iAndroid and other self-driving technologies are set to revolutionize the way we all drive, with pundits predicting large drops in both highway fatalities as well as improved fuel economies. We all sincerely hope that the blue screen of death is truly a thing of the past.

2030 – Careful Rudolph; Fido got a whole new set of teeth for Christmas

LOS ANGELES – Dec.20th, 2030 - Move over Rover, there’s a new sheriff on the block.  Genetically modified pets are the new hot ticket for the rich and aimless this holiday season, headlined by the Venteraptor from genetics pioneer Craig Venter, famous for his role in being one of the first to sequence the human genome and for his role in creating the first cell with a synthetic genome way back in 2010.

“Of course they’re not really Velociraptors,” said Dr. Venter in an interview from his home in San Diego.  “You wouldn’t want a real ‘raptor next to you, even if we could actually make one.  Our V-Raps have loyalty engineered into them and will become a member of your family, just like a German Shepherd. I’ve had them in my own home for years now.” The V-Raps are big, smart, fast, and the beast of choice for those wanting to protect large properties; at over a million bucks apiece, they’re also the  newest in status symbols. For those who looking for a more cuddly protector, the new House Lions are a popular choice.  The forty pound cats are best adopted in pairs or more, as they tend to be more manageable in prides.

In other and possibly related news, authorities are still stumped as to the whereabouts of Dr. Venter’s wife…

SAN FRANCISCO – Feb.20th, 2035 – Even though conscious transference technology is still a long way off and the recreating the conscious mind still in the realm of science fiction, the ability to record the exact state of the hundred billion or so neurons in a human brain has now become a reality with the Cognix smarticle system.  Cognix today announced the commercial release of a “mind back-up” that copies the exact state of your neurological system, in anticipation of one day being able to transfer this into a machine, perhaps the first step in immortality…

2022 – New England cyber attack death toll thousands; Beijing braces retaliation

NEW YORK – Feb.1st, 2022 – The death toll resulting from the power grid shutdowns in January could reach into the thousands, reported the State Department. Still vehemently disputed whether state-sponsored or not, the initial cyber attacks definitely had originated from within China as a pre-emptive warning against threatened American military intervention against China in the wake of its annexation of Taiwan after the Taiwanese independence referendum.

Although the initial cyber attacks were probably intended as warnings, they initiated a cascade of unintended consequences down the entire interconnected power grid of the East Coast, most especially in New England where the entire power grid has gone offline and will not be fully restored until spring. Combined with a devastating snow storm, panic has spread throughout New York as millions are trapped and slowly starving, without clean water or heat.

The disaster has initiated one off the most massive mobilization efforts of all time as the US military has begun operations on domestic soil for the first time in the American history amid frightening reports of cannibalism breaking out. America has unilaterally declared war on China, triggering worldwide panic, and Beijing is bracing for an inevitable kinetic bombing campaign…
